Pre-Wedding Skincare

Skincare is one of the most vital yet daunting tasks of the pre-wedding beauty regimen. In order for you to feel like your most confident, comfortable, best self on your big day, your skin has to be behaving itself. Good skin is the key to having your makeup look #flawless and making you look airbrushed in pictures, without Photoshop. If your current skincare routine isn’t working well for you, it’s time to switch it up a little. Whether you check out Renee Rouleau or use products a dermatologist recommends, it’s best to get your new products sooner rather than later so you can start your skincare routine transformation.

How are you supposed to tackle this enormous–and enormously vague–task?! One step at a time! Here’s our six month plan to getting glowy, picture-perfect skin by the time you say “I do.”

6 Month Pre-Wedding Skincare Routine

6 Months Prior

First thing’s first: Consult an expert! Whether you have your dermatologist on speed dial or you’ve never stepped foot in a dermatology office, book an appointment well in advance of your wedding. Your dermatologist can examine your skin and help you craft a plan to address any skin issues or concerns. From acne and oily skin, to dull dry skin, to fine lines, to clogged pores–they’ve seen it before and know how to fix it!

Another must: Be sure to take care of your skin on a basic level and wear sunscreen consistently, at least SPF 15 or above. You don’t want to add sun damage to your list of pre-wedding concerns! And here’s a lip tip: Wear SPF lip balm to protect your lips from the sun and prevent chapping from the get-go.

3 Months Prior

No later than three months out, you need to have all of your pre-wedding products and processes tested out to see how your skin reacts. Don’t wait until the week-of to get your first-ever facial and end up with a face gone haywire.

Pre-wedding facials can be a super-helpful way to address any skin concerns. Go somewhere with positive reviews, who will sit down with you and have a consultation to determine what kind of facial you would most benefit from.

You can also try out some at-home moisturizing products and face masks to use closer to your wedding. This preparation allows you to determine what you like and how far in advance you should have your facial and use your face masks.

Last, but certainly not least, you should really begin to focus on what you’re putting inside your body. Healthy insides = healthy outsides! Eat lots of fruits and veggies, cut out processed and greasy foods, and reduce your dairy intake (often a cause of breakouts!).

2 Weeks Prior

With two weeks left, now is a good time to have your pre-wedding facial scheduled. Pimples tend to take 2 weeks to form, so having a facial to clear out pores and get rid of blackheads now will help prevent a wedding day pimple.

Now is also a perfect time to do some light exfoliation of your own, to make sure those pores stay clean. Don’t use any new or harsh products to prevent an unwanted result. It’s best not to exfoliate too close to your big day, to avoid any dryness or irritation.

1 Week Prior

It’s officially crunch time. But thanks to your early preparation, your skin should be smooth sailing from here! You should be really focusing on staying hydrated from here on out, so your skin can be as glowy and healthy as possible. Drink water and green tea and eat skin-healthy foods, like watermelon, grapefruit, cucumbers, tomatoes, and kale!

Be gentle with your skin now. Don’t change up your skincare routine or try any new products. You don’t know how your skin will react, and now is not the time for surprises! It’s also a good idea to take a break from any drying products and focus on staying well moisturized. If you have oily or breakout-prone skin, use an oil-free moisturizer (that you tested months ago, of course!).

1 Day Prior

The night before your big day is a great time to apply a pre-tested hydrating and brightening mask, possibly one with aloe to calm and detoxify your skin. Then it’s time to get your beauty rest, Sleeping Beauty! Proper sleep will allow your skin to look and feel its very best for your wedding day. A full night’s sleep will help ensure you don’t wake up with puffy eyes or a surprise breakout!

The Big Day

Today’s the day, you glowy goddess! Use a gentle face wash and light moisturizer this morning. If you wake up with that dreaded pimple, use a cold compress to gently reduce inflammation. When you go to do your makeup, use a green concealer to cover up any redness, then follow up with your normal foundation and setting powder.

It’s best to use hydrating cosmetics today and carry a facial mist with you to keep your skin and makeup looking fresh and glowy all day long! Now enjoy your day, completely comfortable and confident in your own skin!
