Jessica’s Journeys: Part 3

Jessica's Journeys

It’s been quite some time since I last shared with you in “Jessica’s Journeys”, so I thought before I dive into being a mother for the very first time (eek!), I should tell a little about what has been going on in my world.

Jessica's Journeys

I last left off with announcing my new little addition that is soon to be joining my husband and I in just a couple weeks. I can not believe how quickly time has flown by and our sweet baby boy will be in our arms in a matter of days. Recently I met with a new client for a consultation and she asked me if I was going to be taking time off for maternity leave. A very fair question! But honestly I was a bit thrown off guard and wasn’t quite sure how to answer. I hadn’t even thought about taking time off! As an avid planner, during my pregnancy I have felt as though I’ve been pretty well on top of the baby to-do list.  But as I heard her question, I realized that taking time off wasn’t even something that my brain had wrapped around. I mean don’t get me wrong… I had purposefully not taken any weddings around the time of my due date and a few weeks afterwards, but as far as answering phone calls and emails during that time- my brain was completely lost.

Since I started Uptown, all I’ve ever known has been being available to clients and vendors. Even when on vacation, I would still periodically check my messages. But in that moment of this bride (who is absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to work with by the way!) asking me about taking time off, I had a second of clarity that my whole view on life is about to change. Since then, I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around the idea of “taking time off” and while I’m still not fully grasping it yet, I think once my precious boy arrives it will all make sense.

Things will fall into place and life will continue, just in a different way than my mind can possibly comprehend right now. And I’m okay with that!

As I mentioned last time, I have Morgan a fantastic coordinator on the Uptown team that I know will take great care of our clients. I will answer emails and phone calls as I am able to. And my fabulous intern duo- Kathleen and Hallie are going to be there to support us each step of the way.

I’m so very lucky and grateful for my parents and in-laws that live close and are such a wonderful support system. And I can’t help but brag a bit about my amazing husband. He knows just how to make me laugh when I’m struggling to stay positive; he brings a smile to my face every single day and I know he is going to be the best dad ever. No matter how my view on life is about to change, I know that I will still be great at my job AND be a good mother!

Not feeling particularly confident with rocking my maternity look, I wasn’t planning on taking maternity photos. But when a dear friend who happens to be a professional photographer offered to take them, I just couldn’t say no. I hope you will enjoy these as much as we did!

I might not have had any children but have been around a lot. So take one day at a time and remember the good and bad. Love y’all. Aunt Tawana.
